Model of the Month: Alexandra Knight

1.     So Alexandra tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a Melbournian who has grown up in a large family in the Bayside area of Melbourne. I have been modeling internationally across Europe and America for the last 3.5 years. Australia will always be home but for the moment NYC is my base.

2.     Where have you modelled overseas? Where's your favourite place?

I have been fortunate enough to see the world via the collage of jobs I have completed. I lived like a nomad when I first started out. Calling home in Paris, Germany, Singapore, and London, but now I’m settling in NYC. Other exciting places I have made fleeting visits to are Spain, Beijing, Geneva, Monaco, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Toronto and Singapore.

3.  How does Australia compare to the international market?  Which do you prefer?

The Australian fashion industry as a whole, stands with great credibility on the international stage. I believe it is our personality and strong work ethic that makes us stand out.
Australians in fashion have a unique, edgy and determined attitude and we persevere, all which are refreshing to have on set. If I’m fortunate enough to work on a set with another Australian, I’m reminded how connected this industry actually is.
The two locations are vastly different for a multiple of reasons, and I like the difference. The pace of the international platform never seems to slow down, so I always look forward to returning home and to work with familiar faces again. Australia definitely has the best location shoots.

4.  Who is your favourite international & Aussie designer?

My fashion tastes are influenced considerably by the place I call home at the time. Recently when I was visiting Paris I was reminded of the feminine simple dressing that the French are renowned for, my inspiration comes from Bimbo and Lola, Comm de Garcons and Vintage Chloe. However in NYC, the home of  race, pace and multiple commitments, dressing is all about versatility so Helmut Lang, Acne and Elizabeth & James, and Mara Hoffman ( her bohemian style is like no other)
I have grown up admiring the story and the journey of the Sass and Bide girls. However new favourites are Rachel Gilbert and Thurly both have a unique style that is owned by only themselves.

5.  What big campaigns have you shot recently?

Pantene, True Lingerie and Revlon, Danier Leather and White House Black Market. A real array of different campaigns, from fake snow for the Danier winter campaign to racing around in lingerie to iconic locations in Manhattan for True.

6.  Who is your favourite international & Aussie Model?

Nationally it would have to be Elle Macpherson, only because I admire how she has evolved her career into an enterprise, she is beautiful with brains. With regards to grace, poise and style it is hands down Daria Werbowy, I see her regularly in my neighborhood and regardless of her international stardom she is humble and radiates a confident charm.

7.  If you could score any campaign throughout the fashion industry world-wide, what would it be and why?

My life is a multifaceted one, so I couldn’t put my finger on just one campaign I would love to do. Seafolly has always been one I have admired and looked to as it embodies the authenticity of the summer beach culture for so many woman, it also affirms confidence in both women and our beautiful environment. Chloe is another label I would adore to do, I feel the label depicts my personality, as it is always simple, classic yet whimsical.

8.  I understand you are about to take a trip to New York?  Tell us about that?

I have been living in NY for the past 2 years, before then I was based in Paris and London. NY is a very vibrant city and in the fashion industry it can be ever so changing. It defines you, creates you and inspires you all at once. More often than not you are faced with situations that you only imagine. Such as today I was brought in to meet with Terry Richardson.
Keeping up with the international pace and environment enables you to learn a lot about yourself very quickly, I am very grateful for the self learning and development I receive being a model.

9.  What does a day in the life of Alexandra Knight consist of in New York?

Often running around like a headless chook!!! No, on a more serious note, no one day is never the same. I try to begin the day with my exercise, as I’m training for the half marathon at the moment. Training involves a lot of running with occasional boxing circuits! I have consistent clients that I have built up so it is lovely to regularly visit them on set when I’m working.
During hair and makeup I’m regularly reading a university lecture…!! ( always using my time wisely!) The evening is when I catch up with my family on Skype and enjoy cooking a fresh home cooked meal. I’m studying Nutrition so this time of day is my wind down time. A new goal for me amongst all of my study is to keep a journal of my adventures, as more often than not the stories from the day are too good to forget.

10.  What form of modelling do you enjoy most?

In this regard I’m a very lucky girl as my career has enabled me to branch across all avenues of modeling. Each area/mode requires a different transformation of yourself. I love modeling because you get the opportunity to act, take on a different role one that is removed from your normal personality. I find on the Catwalk I translate attitude, where as Print is more multidimensional, and Film is fun, relaxed and cheerful.

I don’t think for now I could just focus on just any one of these, and this is why I’m thrilled to have my network of agencies globally as collectively throughout the year they provide me with vast breadth of opportunities, which I love.
